Dear friends

ELP has three lots of news for you today:

1) New British Animal Rights prisoner
2) American environmentalist electronically tracked
3) A reminder - Swedish Animal Rights activist jailed

1) Yesterday a British animal rights activist was sentenced to eight months imprisonment for sending hate mail to people associated with Huntingdon Life Sciences. In court it was claimed she'd sent a total of 18 letters which warned people they should drop their connections with HLS or face the wrath of the animal rights movement.

2) ELP has just received the following article.

A Los Angeles area environmental activist recently discovered what appears to be a government issued GPS tracking device under the
rear bumper of her vehicle. The below information is being circulated to shed some light on the government's intrusions into
our privacy and harassment of political dissidents, as well as to provide information on what someone should look for in case they
decided to check the underside of their bumper.

The device was located inside of the bumper, attached to the metal fender by extremely powerful magnets. The device consists of three
parts: a large, black battery pack (about the size and shape of a maglight); a small, black box with an antenna attached; and a
smaller, rounded box, which is the GPS element of the device. All three segments were connected by red and black wires. There were no
manufacturing labels or other identifiers on the device, except for a series of numbers: 212:590, 11085.

Inside of the battery pack were four "Saft" lithium batteries. According to their website, www.saftbatteries.com, Saft develops
batteries used in the Defense industry. This particular type of battery- LSH -is used in "tracking and localizations." On the
batteries was a warning that read "Fire, explosion and severe burn hazard. Do not crush or puncture." It's nice to know that the Feds,
being so concerned with safety, would be kind enough to place a device with such batteries on THE BUMPER. Especially considering
that this particular activist has a long history of fender-benders. Inside of the battery pack were the handwritten numbers: 509.

The activist felt that the placement of the device was a violation of her first amendment rights, as well as her right to privacy (and
she just generally doesn't like the Feds), so she removed it. Should the FBI choose to relinquish their property, the device will
soon be available for purchase on eBay, as she hopes to raise some cash from the sale to fund the very (legal) activism that the Feds
were so concerned about "monitoring" in the first place. Please distribute this information and use it. Be aware, however, that
removing these and similar devices has sometimes led to increased harassment. Photographs of the device can be found at:

Below is a link to an article written about similar devices found on the vehicles of Rod Coronado and roommates:

3) The other day ELP circulated our November 2005 edition of "Spirit of Freedom". Some people have reported their edition did not appear in their e-mail inbox. If you didn't receive your edition please let ELP know. Also just to remind everyone, as reported in Spirit of Freedom November 2005, there is a new Swedish animal rights prisoner.

ALF activist Mikael is serving 8 months for criminal damage after he smashed all the windows at a chinchilla fur farmers house, he then threw red paint and a fire extinguisher through the broken windows. Mikael is also jailed for assault after he defended himself against a group of fur farmers who attacked him. Mikael reads & writes English and welcomes letters of support.
